Black Panther 2: Tenoch Huerta Rumored As Villain

Marvel Studios is moving ahead with Black Panther 2 even as the studio has yet to decide what to do about the character of T'Challa in the wake of actor Chadwick Boseman's death earlier this year.

The trade doesn't know how Disney/Marvel plans to proceed without Boseman as the titular Wakandan hero, but the report does mention that Letitia Wright is expected to "take on a more prominent role".

Wright and Huerta will be joined by Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett, all of whom will be reprising their roles. Those rumors have been dismissed by Marvel Studios, but the question remains as to how the Black Panther series will continue.

Chadwick Boseman tragically passed away on August 28 at the age of 43.

THR also reports that Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico, Sin Nombre) has been cast as one of the sequel's unspecified villains. "Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honor this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so bad, really". "But it is not a long time, we have to think carefully about what we are going to do, and how, and think about how we are going to honor the franchise". Originally, production was aiming to start in March 2021 for a May 6, 2022 release, but then then tragedy struck. Ryan Coogler is also returning to write and direct. Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett are also set to return, though there are now no officially-announced plans on how Marvel will continue the film series without Boseman.

Before joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as T'Challa, Boseman earned rave reviews for his portrayals of Jackie Robinson in 42 (2013) and James Brown in Get On Up (2014). This comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter.
