Donald Trump Jr. tests positive for coronavirus

Donald Trump Jr. tests positive for coronavirus

President Donald Trump's oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., tested positive for coronavirus infection earlier this week and is isolating, according to three people familiar with the matter.

As it stands, Trump now at home in quarantine and is asymptomatic. "He's been completely asymptomatic so far and is following all medically recommended COVID-19 guidelines".

Trump Jr, the president's eldest son, is now the fourth member of the Trump family to have become infected with Covid.

Andrew Giuliani, the son of the president's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, also said he tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday.

Over 11.8 million Americans have contracted the coronavirus since the onslaught of the pandemic earlier this year, resulting in the death of almost 254,000 people in the USA, according to data by John Hopkins University.

Trump Jr had managed to evade infection after his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, tested positive in July.

The White House says it constantly tests those around the President and Vice President Mike Pence, but officials often take a lax approach to following US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's guidelines to wear a mask and social distance.

The coronavirus pandemic is surging around the country, with new cases regularly topping 150,000 per day since last week.
