Amazon dumps Ring, moves Google Glass Rival Echo Frames out of beta

Amazon has unveiled an upgraded version of its Echo Frames "smart" glasses with a number of hardware and software changes that it claims will "make it easier than ever to interact with Alexa throughout your day". The Echo Frames also support Google Assistant and Siri from compatible devices. They are up for pre-request now and will start transporting on December 10.

On the other hand, Amazon will stop the production and sales of the Echo Loop smart ring.

The upgraded Echo Frames are priced at $249.99 (roughly Rs. 18, 500) and are up for sale in the United States, although their worldwide availability is not clear as of now.

These new smart glasses from Amazon come in three color options - Modern Tortoise, Horizon Blue, and Classic Black.

During the past year, Amazon learned a lot from users and has made some improvements to the Echo Frames before launching the second-gen version. The glasses were created to look like normal everyday eyewear while using open-ear audio technology to focus sound toward your ears. The first model had open-ear speakers where you would hear replies, and the new model can automatically adjust volume based on how loud your surroundings are. To further improve the battery life, the smart glasses will now turn off when they are placed upside down for three seconds. This filter only alerts users when they receive notifications from specific apps and contacts that the user chooses.

The construction of Echo Frames includes speakers close to the ears, which allows the user to "listen discreetly" to Alexa. At only 188 grams, the Echo Frames are lightweight and will be comfortable to wear for longer durations.

Amazon also announced Thursday that another Day 1 Editions product would not be moving past the trial phase. You could also integrate these Fire TV commands with your bedtime routine to turn off the Amazon dongle and lights, and set an alarm for the morning - all in one go.

Customers who had the Day 1 Edition Echo Frames will be able to update their frames for $70 which is roughly around Rs.5,200.
