It's 18cm longer than the standard long-wheelbase S-Class, and all of that extra length goes to improve the spaciousness in the rear seats - as this model is a auto that will be more used as a chauffeur vehicle than a driver's auto. The all-new providing sits on high of the S-Class line-up as its most luxurious iteration with extra rear legroom, extra creature consolation and extra opulence as effectively.

However, to ensure that it stands out from a regular S-Class, there are some exclusive features.

There's also an active ambient lighting system, which employs 253 LEDs, a head-up display with augmented reality, along with an optional Interior Assist function, which uses cameras to track movements of the car's occupants and proactively trigger certain functions.

Other luxury aspects include the option of wood surrounds that encase the rear of the front seat backrests, if you need even more of a lounge feel while inside. A 9-speed automatic gearbox sends power to all four wheels via the 4-Matic all-wheel-drive system.

However given emissions regulations, the Maybach will likely score the same engine as the Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 SUV revealed late previous year - a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with 48V mild-hybrid technology, developing 410kW from 6000-6500rpm and 730Nm from 2500-5000rpm. As with all Level 3 autonomous-certified vehicles, the Maybach S-class will require the driver to be alert at all times and ready to take to the controls again, should the situation demand it.

It's unclear which powertrain is making its way to India, when the Maybach S-Class is launched here in the first half of 2021.

Set to arrive at United States dealerships in the middle of next year, pricing of the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S580 is yet to be revealed.
