New Cases Of COVID-19 Confirmed Nationally; Including 6 In Clare

HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE confirmed a further 318 cases of Covid-19 in this country.

126 of today's cases are in Dublin, with 45 in Cork, 28 in Limerick, 21 in Donegal and 18 in Kildare. The remaining 80 cases are spread across 18 other counties. In the past 24 hours, 77 people have tested positive in Belfast, followed by 36 in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon and 33 in Lisburn and Castlereagh.

As of this afternoon, there were 282 COVID-19 patients in Irish hospitals, including 31 in intensive care.

Those under the age of 45 represent 69% of today's cases, while the median age is 32.

Galway has the second lowest 14-day incidence rate in the State, with just 62 cases per 100,000 population in the last two weeks.


The latest figures come as the Health Minister has said he hopes as many people as possible can see their families this Christmas.

In Northern Ireland, 12 further deaths linked to coronavirus have been reported.

The latest deaths increases the Covid toll to 2,022, while the total number of infections has climbed to 70,143.

Cafes, restaurants and hairdressers were allowed to reopen in the North today.
