Tristan Thompson to sign two-year deal with the Boston Celtics

Cleveland Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson is headed to the Boston Celtics, multiple reports say.

Former Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson has agreed to a deal with the Boston Celtics, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo!

Thompson averaged 12 points and 10.1 rebounds a game last season in Cleveland, although he will not be asked to carry the same offensive load.

Thompson earned $18.5 million in 2019-20, the final year of a five-year pact he signed with the team back in 2015. He endured highs and lows with the Cavs, capturing a title with LeBron James & 2016, only to be part of 38 combined wins with the team in the two years since James left for Los Angeles.

Thompson has produced for Cleveland, averaging a double-double the past two seasons after never having done so previously in his career. Tristan Thompson is one of the best rebounders and defenders in the National Basketball Association. Thompson will join Daniel Theis and the Time Lord Robert Williams in the Celtics' big man rotation. He took a career-high 23 3-pointers last season, making a career-high nine of them. The Celtics will be just his second team since he was drafted with the No. 4 pick in 2011.
