Timberwolves Select Edwards, Bring Rubio Back

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder continue to work out the details of Wednesday's trade that will reportedly see Ricky Rubio return to the Twin Cities. He was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier this week as part of the deal that sent Chris Paul to Phoenix. He has had two stints with the Toronto Raptors (2011-12, 2014-16) as well. He averaged 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 8.5 assists in 353 games while shooting 37.5 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from beyond the arc and 83.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Rubio returns to the franchise where his National Basketball Association career began, having played in Minnesota from 2011 to 2017.

He played for the Utah Jazz for two years before landing in Phoenix, where he signed a three year, $51 million deal before the start of last season.

The Minnesota Timberwolves want to have multiple initiators on the floor at all times, and everybody loves a good reunion.

Timberwolves coach Ryan Saunders is said to be a huge fan of Rubio's. The man who traded him, Tom Thibodeau, is gone. The Wolves also obtained Leandro Bolmaro, a playmaking 6-7 forward from Argentina who is likely to remain overseas next season, with the No. 23 pick and Jaden McDaniels, a Washington freshman forward, with the No. 28 pick. He says Edwards it the best player in this draft and is a good fit for the Wolves.

The move would reunite Rubio with the Wolves.
