Trump campaign appeals loss in Pennsylvania election dispute

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Trump ally interviewed on ABC's "This Week", called the sometimes freakish behavior of the president's legal team, headed by former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, a "national embarrassment".

Brann, nominated by former President Barack Obama, is a Republican and, according to his biography, a member of the Federalist Society, a group of conservative and libertarian lawyers, law students and scholars.

In Wisconsin, another disputed battleground state, officials accused Trump election observers of trying to obstruct a recount by objecting to almost every ballot in some places.

"Today's ruling is a victory for the rule of law, and for the voters of Pennsylvania, whom the Trump campaign sought to disenfranchise on the flimsiest legal theory imaginable", wrote election law scholar Rick Hasen on Twitter.

Georgia certified its results on Friday and MI and Pennsylvania are both likely to do so on Monday, leaving the president an uncertain path to flip enough electoral votes to reverse his defeat.

"Make no mistake about it, I am deeply disappointed that President Trump and Vice President Pence were not re-elected", Toomey went on to say, noting he endorsed Trump and voted for him.

As NPR previously reported, Rudy Giuliani, President Trump's lawyer, had argued that Republican observers were illegally denied access to ballot counting in Allegheny County and other Democratic-leaning areas and that the court should therefore invalidate almost 700,000 mail-in votes.

For Trump to have any hope of overturning the election, he needs to reverse the outcome in Pennsylvania, which is scheduled to be certified by state officials on Monday. A previous laborious hand recount reaffirmed Biden's victory by a margin of more than 12,000 votes in the southern state, a longtime Republican bastion in presidential elections.

Joe Biden will unveil his first Cabinet picks Tuesday, his chief of staff said Sunday, a tangible sign that a new administration is moving ahead despite President Trump's continuing efforts to stymie it and to overturn the election result.

US President Donald Trump, who participated in his final Group of 20 summit on Saturday, skipped a special side-conference focused on coronavirus pandemic and was later spotted at his golf course outside Washington.

The judgment in Pennsylvania came hours after Republicans also requested a delay in certification in MI, another battleground, in a letter that repeated allegations of irregularities in the state, which Mr Biden won by 155,000 votes.

The campaign has requested a recount in two counties in Wisconsin that is now underway. Since he won the presidency, Biden has emphasized the importance of mask-wearing.

MI is set to certify its results on Monday. Michigan's results have to be certified by December 13.

But what happens if Trump refuses to leave office and pass on the power to his successor?

Other Democrats have been unsparing in their criticism.

Although Cornyn has yet to outright acknowledge that Biden is President-elect, he tweeted that Biden should receive intelligence briefings amid Trump's efforts to stall the President-elect's formal transition. "That's our goal", Klain said in response to a question.
