Martin serves as producer with the co-showrunners including Ryan Condal (Colony) and Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones). Another prequel series planned by HBO starring Naomi Watts was scrapped earlier this year.

Though the Emmy winning show ended after eight seasons in 2019, author George RR Martin's sprawling world continues to take on new forms on television. The news announced when Warner Bros also confirmed that plenty of its upcoming movies will release on HBO Max and in the cinemas at the same time. The prequel series will feature Targaryens, the House of Dragons, who are at the height of their powers with over 15 dragons belonging to the family (keep in mind, we've only seen three dragons on "Game of Thrones").

HBO shared the concept art of some as-of-yet-unidentified dragons (below) on Twitter, with the caption, "Dragons are coming". He said that the principal photography already begins on House of the Dragon. It was however passed on in favour of House Of The Dragons. The series is expected to debut sometime in 2022. In his blog post, Kilar also remembered other series, mentioning Zack Snyder's "Justice League", the reunion of "Friends" or the reboot of "Gossip Girl" among others. The series recently added "The Visitor" star Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, a kind and decent man who discovers that doesn't necessarily mean he will be a great king after the lords of Westeros have chosen him to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen.
