Have a Merry and Eco-Friendly Christmas: Recycle Your Tree

For locations served by Bowling Green city refuse and recycling collection, Christmas trees will be collected through a special one-week collection.

The Pick Your Own Christmas Tree site has an alphabetical listing of Texas cities where people can recycle their Christmas tree. The city is also offering mulch free of charge to San Marcans.

Residents can recycle Christmas trees for free at all county convenience centers through January 31.

The Chicago Park District and Department of Streets and Sanitation have once again teamed up to offer a Christmas tree recycling program. The Town reminds residents that there will not be curbside pickup of trees.

Some ward offices and community groups organize tree collection days.

“Have your storage boxes ready and remove the tree skirt, all ornaments and lights, and any wire or twine used to secure the tree, ” she said.

The city will also offer a brush drop off at the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter - 750 River Road - on January 9 from 8 a.m. -1 p.m. In the past recycled Christmas trees have also been used to help municipalities replenish their beach dunes. It's open from 8 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 until 5 on Saturday. The drop-off is sponsored by the Douglas County Parks Department and Bently Enterprises.

Stafford says there are a number of safer-and more creative-ways to dispose of a real Christmas tree. Trees must be free from any decorations, stands, or any other non-biodegradable materials before being donated. Collection is not connected to your regular refuse/recycling schedule.

Hays County Recycling & Solid Waste Transfer Stations will be accepting Christmas trees for recycling at both locations from Tuesday.
