Chelsea to re-appoint ex-Boss Avram Grant to help Lampard

AC Milan have contacted Premier League giants Chelsea over the possibility of signing defender Fikayo Tomori in the ongoing transfer window.

Chelsea's squad contains five centre-backs and Tomori, who also has interest from Premier League clubs, has fallen to the bottom of the queue since breaking into the first team last season.

The central defender is now struggling for game time at Stamford Bridge, and has made just four appearances so far this season.

Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva have started the most recent top-flight games in defence, with the former and Antonio Rudiger starting the Morecambe game on Sunday before Tomori's introduction with ten minutes left.

Should Simakan move to Leipzig or elsewhere, then Milan are ready to offer Tomori an 18-month loan deal to move to Italy until the end of next season. Lampard explained that Tomori was on the bench because "he could be going on loan to get games".

Speaking to the press after the FA Cup win at Morecambe, Lampard saidd: 'The situation with Fikayo is open about the moment.

'And second, don't lose what you have here [points at head] - you need to think right and look for solutions.

Tomori has been linked with Leeds United and Newcastle United, but neither club are battling for his signature at present.

"So while I was looking at starting him today, I was also looking at that". Lampard brought him to Derby on loan in the 2018-19 season and initially used him extensively after becoming Chelsea's manager 18 months ago.

But Lampard said: "His attitude whilst not playing so much recently - and it's not easy, there are five centre-back at the club - has been fantastic in terms of training every day and how he is".
