NY mayor terminates city’s business ties with Donald Trump

This comes after the violent insurrection at the Capitol when Trump supporters stormed the building, the chaos that ensued left five people dead.

"We're going to get new vendors to take over".

The mayor accused Trump of inciting a "rebellion" at the United States Capitol, which prompted the review. The process for terminating the Ferry Point Golf Course agreement is "more detailed and is expected to take a number of months".

According to a Wednesday report from NPR, the city will sever its contracts with the Trump Organization - owned by President Donald Trump and helmed by his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump - which operated two public ice rinks and a carousel in Central Park, as well as a Bronx golf course.

Amid accusations that Trump allegedly incited the Capitol mob on 6 January, the PGA voted to strip its namesake championship from Trump's Bedminister golf course in New Jersey, next year.

The Democratic mayor anticipated that the company will put up a fight in court against the city's decision, but he asserted that an end to the contracts stood "on strong legal ground". "The City of NY will no longer have anything to do with the Trump Organization". Contracts for the Wollman and Lasker ice skating rinks will terminate 30 days after delivery of written notice.

While the city has previously considered severing contracts with the Trump Organization, de Blasio said last week's incitement of violence qualified as "criminal activity" and gives the city the right to cut ties.

The contracts contain language, including words like "arbitrary" and "capricious", that forbids cancelling the deals if it appears to be because of personal animus.

Mr Levine said that seeing Mr Trump's name on the Central Park establishments "felt like a punch to the gut".
