Seahawks extend GM, fire offensive coordinator

Seahawks extend GM, fire offensive coordinator

"I know we are all excited to see that continue".

Those "philosophical differences" may have been with head coach Pete Caroll, Russell Wilson and top wide receiver DK Metcalf, who was visibly upset on the sidelines a couple of times during Saturday's loss.

Carroll also said he would like the Seahawks to run the ball more next year, and, according to NFL Network, the team is considering interviewing Shane Steichen, who was the Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator this past season.

However, the unit declined this season, scoring more than 26 points only twice in the final nine games (including playoffs) after doing so in each of the first eight. The Seahawks have played in two Super Bowls during Schneider's tenure, winning one against the Denver Broncos after the 2013 season.

In December, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll praised Schottenheimer as an "incredible candidate" to be a head coach for another team.

With his track record, it is no surprise that the Detroit Lions were reportedly interested in luring Schneider from Seattle.

Schneider's extension ends some brief speculation that emerged late in the regular season that other teams might be curious in seeing if he might be interested in moving on from Seattle.

According to ESPN, Schottenheimer failed to find balance between the pass and run games this season.

"I am pleased to announce that we have extended the contract of general manager John Schneider through the 2027 draft", team coach Jody Allen said in a statement.
