In an interview with "CBS This Morning" that aired Tuesday, host Gayle King asked Cook where he stands on the issue of Trump's role in the insurrection, which resulted in five deaths and dozens of arrests. "This is a thing we've obtained to be extremely severe about, and comprehend, and then we will need to shift forward".

Mr Cybart also noted that Ms King "is a big hitter for CBS" and that as such it is likely the interview would really be used to announce something significant.

"I think it's key that people be held accountable for it", Cook said.

When asked about if President Donald Trump should be held responsible for his part in inciting the riot, Cook didn't mention the president by name but did say that everyone involved should be held accountable. It's something I think bigger and better than that. Cook added: "I don't think we should let it go".

The comments made by Cook about the Capitol attack and Trump were as part of a longer interview that "CBS This Morning" is going to release on January 13, reports AppleInsider.

Looking back at what Apple announcements are pending, the company is yet to debut the Apple Tracking Transparency feature that's scheduled to arrive early 2021.

Revealed within a clip of the upcoming interview, King said "it is not a new product... it's something I think is bigger and better than that", without giving away what the announcement will be.
