Peaky Blinders to end with sixth and final season

Peaky Blinders to end with sixth and final season

Knight previously told Entertainment Weekly in 2019 that Peaky Blinders would continue until season 7, making the latest announcement a surprise twist for the fans. Nick Goding will produce, and executive producers include Murphy, Mandabach, Knight, Byrne, Jamie Glazebrook, and David Mason.

However, on Monday, January 18, Knight confirmed the upcoming sixth series would be the last.

Peaky is back and with a bang, after the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic.

He teased that while the TV series is coming to an end, "the story will continue in another form".

For Peaky Blinders season six, the cast and crew are heading to Scotland to shoot part of the series.

Creator Stephen Knight said the series may end with season six, but the Peaky Blinders story will continue in "another form".

Meanwhile, Executive Producer for the BBC Tommy Bulfin said of the show: 'We are very excited that filming for Peaky Blinders has begun and so grateful to everyone for all their hard work to make it happen.

Peaky Blinders focused on Tommy Shelby (Murphy) and his notorious family's rise to prominence and power, against the backdrop of working-class, post-First World War Birmingham. Thank you to all the fans who have been so unwaveringly supportive and patient.

"He went on to call Steven's scripts for the final series "truly remarkable", adding: "[They] provide a fitting send-off which we are sure will delight fans".

Regulars Murphy, Helen McCrory, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole and Paul Anderson are all expected to return. According to Variety, the series has started production in the United Kingdom under strict COVID-19 guidelines. It's bittersweet, as fans have been eagerly anticipating season six to start production, but not everyone foresaw that it would wind up becoming the last season of the show.

Ratings quickly grew from over two million for the first series to over four million by series four and it found further popularity on Netflix. However, it's possible that a year's delay in production could have caused producers to wrap things up with season 6, which will likely air in late 2021 or possibly even early in 2022.
