Boncuk - the dog - spends 5 days outside hospital waiting for owner

The pet, named Boncuk - which means bead - followed the ambulance that transported its owner, Cemal Senturk, to hospital in the Black Sea city of Trabzon on January 14.

"His dog "Boncuk" has followed him to the hospital gate and refused to leave for six days until her owner was discharged", Murat Ercan, the hospital's worldwide patient center director, said.

The pooch was waiting for her owner of nine years, Cemal Senturk, while he was in hospital.

The news is likely to offer some comfort to Turkey's 82m citizens as they emerge from a dire second wave of coronavirus.

The country has imposed a number of curfews since the outbreak of the pandemic, with the elderly ordered not to leave home for several months at a time.

Boncuk came back every day even after family members tried to take her home.

They were fully reunited later on Wednesday, when Senturk was discharged and went home. She then made daily visits to the facility, private news agency DHA reported on Wednesday.

Occasionally poking her nose through the glass sliding door, Boncuk never went in, but waited patiently in front of the hospital.

On Wednesday, Boncuk was finally reunited with Senturk in an emotional reunion captured on video, shared by CBS News via Twitter.

Today, dogs like Boncuk, a truly dedicated pup in northern Turkey, make their ancestors proud by showing their devotion in truly astonishing ways.

Senturk told DHA: "She's very used to me".

As soon she saw her owner, the pet dog ran back and forth the wheelchair of her owner, expressing the love she has for Senturk. And I miss her, too, constantly, ' he said.

Hachiko lived over 100 years ago in Japan.

According to the local media, the faithful dog had been expecting its owner to return since he recently died.
