SpaceX to launch world's first all-commercial astronaut mission

Jared Isaacman is the founder of Shift4 Payments, a credit processing firm, is launching the Inspiration4 mission with the hopes of raising 200 million dollars for St. Jude Research Hospital, based in Tennessee, with half coming from his own pockets.

In collaboration with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (which opened the same year an American orbited Earth for the first time), Mission Commander Isaacman will raffle off one seat to a lucky U.S. citizen who donates at least $10 to the hospital.

"When America went to the Moon in 69, it wasn't just a few people, humanity went to the Moon", said Musk.

According to a CNN report, SpaceX and NASA have long anticipated that SpaceX will cultivate more private-sector confidence in investing big bucks on space exploration for its upcoming Crew Dragon spacecraft.

Elon Musk's SpaceX announced on Monday that it would fly a crew of private citizens into orbit around Earth, by the end of the year in a multiday mission created to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

A third will be picked by a panel of judges from entrepreneurs who use an ecommerce tool from Isaacman's company, Shift4 Payments. Neither have the three people he plans to put in the Dragon's other seats. Musk's SpaceX is doing a great job with this mission as not only it seeks to raise support for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital but also make human spaceflight more common.

SpaceX also added that it would soon announce the three individuals who would be joining Isaacman in the journey towards the orbit, but all members of the public would have the chance to join the selection process.

That's the spaceship that SpaceX plans to give Isaacman for his mission later this year.

Crew-2's arrival at the space station is expected to overlap with the astronauts that flew to the station as part of the agency's SpaceX Crew-1 mission. SpaceX says this very Dragon will launch four private astronauts as early as this year. Then, the crew will immediately begin SpaceX's astronaut-training program, with Isaacman making some additions inspired by his mountain-climbing experience.

'When you've got a brand new mode of transportation, you have to have pioneers.

Named the Inspiration 4, the mission will be carried out using a reusable Balkan 9 rocket launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Details of the ride in a SpaceX Dragon capsule are still being worked out, including the number of days the four will be in orbit after blasting off from Florida.

If it works, Starship might slash the cost of reaching space about 1,000-fold, power round-the-world hypersonic travel on Earth, and fly astronauts to the moon.
