Villas-Boas 'suspended' after attempt to quit Marseille job

"I just want to leave", Villas-Boas said at a press conference on Tuesday. I had nothing to do with this decision. I learned about it this morning in the press when I woke up. I had specifically said no to that player and he was never on our list of targets. He ended up coming, but I was not in favour.

"The board has not yet given me feedback".

"I submitted my resignation saying that I did not agree with the sporting policy".

"We are yet to have been given a final response from the board. Let me be clear, though, I don't want anything from L'OM, I don't want any money".

What's the current situation at Marseille?

Marseille are now ninth in Ligue 1 and were knocked out in the group stage of the Champions League. They have just one win from their last nine games.

Marseille have been burdened by financial concerns and their league form has been awful of late with just one point gained from four games.

Last weekend's scheduled clash at home to Rennes was postponed three hours before kick-off after "a few hundred individuals from Ultra supporter groups" stormed the club's training ground, requiring police intervention.

What has Villas-Boas achieved at the club?

Marseille have accepted the resignation of coach Andre Villas-Boas with sources telling ESPN that Leonardo Jardim and Ernesto Valverde are among the contenders to replace him. It was their best finish in seven years.

Ntcham may have seen his individual form dip this season, but he's a player that has won eight pieces of silverware during his time in Scotland.

Villas-Boas managed Academica and Porto in his native Portugal before moving to the Premier League to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea.

He then managed Zenit Saint Petersburg and Shanghai SIPG, before moving to Marseille in 2019.
