Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) rapper Silento charged with murder

Silento, the rapper behind the 2015 hit "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)", has been charged with murdering his cousin.

Silento's arrest, who's real name is Richard "Ricky" Lamar Hawk, took place four months after he was charged with assault in LA.

CNN has reached out to representatives for Silentó.

The 23-year-old rapper has been arrested by authorities - yet again - this time, for the murder of his cousin Frederick Rooks.

Rooks was found dead in a residential street with multiple gunshot wounds in Panthersville, Georgia, according to police.

Silentó was booked into jail on Monday and is now being held there on a murder charge, jail records show.

It said that police reported that after a "thorough investigation", which included gathering evidence from "multiple residents' security cameras", "detectives identified Hawks as Rooks' cousin, and the person responsible for Rooks' murder". Police said they were working to determine a motive for the killing.

In October, the rapper was arrested for allegedly driving 143 miles per hour on Interstate 85.

Silento rose to fame following the success of his viral hit "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)", which has been viewed over 1.7 billion times on YouTube, and peaked at No.3 in America and No.19 in the UK. "His most recent release was the single 'Swish" on January 28. He also released an album, Skyrolyrics, in October 2020.
