Dolly Parton Turned Down The Presidential Medal Of Freedom Twice

Dolly Parton Turned Down The Presidential Medal Of Freedom Twice

Dolly Parton has revealed that both Donald Trump and Joe Biden made moves to award her a Presidential Medal of Freedom, but she rebuffed them both. "I got offered the freedom award from the Trump administration and I couldn't accept it because my husband was ill". When Colbert asked him why he had never honored Parton during a segment titled "Questions We're Pretty Sure Barack Obama Has Never Been Asked Before", Obama said he was "shocked" that she had not received the honor, admitting, "That was a screw-up". The BBC notes that when Stephen Colbert asked Barack Obama previous year why he hadn't awarded Parton the medal, he said, "I think I assumed that she'd already got one and that was incorrect". "She deserves one. I'll call Biden".

"I don't work for those awards", Parton continued.

"Today" host Hoda Kotb disagreed, saying, "I think everyone thinks you might deserve it". But it's a nice compliment for people to think that I might deserve it'. "I think I assumed she had already got one". The eight-time Grammy victor told Today that the new administration has reached out to her, but that she was anxious about how receiving the award from Biden might be perceived. She's also acted in movies like "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and "Steel Magnolias"; has donated more than 100 million children's books through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library; helped families displaced by the Tennessee wildfires through the Dollywood Foundation; and gave $1 million to help fund coronavirus research at Vanderbilt University, which helped develop the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine. I didn't donate the money so I could be protected.

Parton also believes she doesn't deserve the award, which is the nation's highest civilian honor.

The Medal of Freedom was established by President Truman in 1945.

If Parton does accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Biden, it certainly will make it look like she's letting her political leanings be known, given the fact that she refused the honor twice from Trump. I really thought that was a wonderful thing, especially for Squarespace.
