Winter Storm Watch Already Issued for Lubbock on Saturday Night

However, this activity will not be as widespread as it will be on Monday, and impacts will be limited to confined areas.

Alongside potential "nearly impossible" travel, the National Weather Service has warned that power outages and tree damage are likely as ice accumulates on power lines and tree branches, causing them to sag and potentially collapse.

The National Weather Service in Charleston has extended its Winter Storm Warning early Monday morning into Tuesday for numerous West Virginia counties.

NWS in Hastings, Neb., has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday for the following counties in our area.

Wind chills will be very cold as well Sunday night into Monday with values as low as 10 degrees below zero in some places. We go above freezing by later Sunday morning and afternoon with some melting of the snow and ice.

SUNDAY: Freezing rain is possible on Sunday, especially after sunset. There's a chance that as temperatures trend colder Monday afternoon that the freezing rain can change over to sleet and some snow on top of the ice for Marion, Winston, Cullman, Walker, Fayette, Pickens, Lamar, and Tuscaloosa counties. The NWS in Dallas is calling the snow threat a historic winter storm. This will make travel very hard.

"Snowfall accumulations for most of the Texas Panhandle are expected to be between 5" to 10" for this weekend.

Amarillo, in the Texas panhandle, will see a high temperature of only a blistering cold 2 degrees Fahrenheit, Chenard said, breaking the record of 12 degrees set in 1895. Once again this looks to be a snow and mixed precipitation event. In Houston, it will feel like single-digit temperatures.

Another round of winter precipitation and freezing temperatures are forecast Wednesday. Highs today will likely be near freezing all day long.

Even after that weathermaker gets out of the area - another one behind it could add to the snowfall totals late in the week. You can also make sure your pipes and exposed faucets are protected too.

Moving south of Salem and westward to the coast, the weather through Monday will be back to normal with periods of rain and mountain snow, the weather service said.
