Joe Manchin Hit After Announcing He Won't Confirm Neera Tanden

"I believe her overtly partisan statements will have a toxic and detrimental impact on the important working relationship between members of Congress and the next director of the Office of Management and Budget", said Manchin, who will also likely cast a decisive vote on Biden's $1.9 trillion stimulus plan.

The Senate Homeland Security and Budget committees are scheduled to vote on Tanden's nomination next week.

"Susan Collins" bad treatment of Dr. Ford should haunt Collins the rest of her days, ' Tanden tweeted during the contentious Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, when Susan Blasey Ford raised allegations against him. Tanden would need the support of at least one Republican senator in order to pass confirmation, with the vote of Vice President Kamala Harris needed to break a tie.

Mr. Manchin's announcement means that unless a Republican Senator comes forward to support her nomination, it is unlikely that Ms. Tanden, 50, will be confirmed for the job. "He'ss making her famous in WV so they will know he is putting a woman of color in her place, after another women of color - our Vice President - stepped out of what he thinks is 'her place'in WV recently", said Cheri Jacobus, a NeverTrump activist.

Republicans control 50 of the votes in the Senate so one vote from a Democrat will nearly certainly doom Tanden's nomination, unless Democrats are able to pick up at least one vote from a Republican.

"I have carefully reviewed Neera Tanden's public statements and tweets that were personally directed towards my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, from Senator Sanders to Senator McConnell and others", Manchin said.

With the likelihood of any Senate Republicans supporting her appointment very slim, Manchin's move could very likely sink her nomination in a chamber with an even partisan split of 50-50.

If she fails to garner enough support, Ms. Tanden would be the first Biden administration pick not to win Senate confirmation.

Despite Mr. Manchin's opposition, Mr. Biden said he will not pull the nomination.

"I recognize the concern".

The Senate Budget Committee is set to vote on Tanden's nomination next week in advance of a full floor vote. Sen. "I'm talking to her early next week".

Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, himself a former director of the Office of Management and Budget, read aloud posts in which she called McConnell "Moscow Mitch" and said that "vampires have more heart than Ted Cruz", referring to the Texas Republican.

'Russia did a lot more to help Bernie than the DNC's random internal e-mails did to help Hillary, ' Tanden wrote, siding with Clinton.
