On Sunday, Trump was the main speaker at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

A pair of influential House Republicans used a conservative political gathering Saturday to lavish praise on former President Donald Trump and, in ways subtle and direct, marginalize their GOP colleagues who have distanced themselves from Trump in the aftermath of the Capitol riot last month. "We represent the future of this country", he said.

The former Republican president does not accept his defeat for Democrat Joe Biden, who took command of the United States presidency on January 20 and overturned many of his predecessor policies, including immigration.

The Indiana Republican, who heads the conservative Republican Study Group, has sought to take a more prominent role in the caucus following Cheney's break with Trump. Companies in technology, telecommunications, finance and other industries say the rule could stifle innovation and hurt competitiveness, and had expected it to be delayed as the administration undertakes a broad review of USA policy on Chinese technology.

It is highly unusual for past American presidents to publicly criticize their successors in the months after leaving office. But they were much more ambiguous when asked whether he should run again, with only 68% saying he should.

And he insisted the party was united, even as he called out by name Republicans who voted to impeach him for inciting the January 6 riot at the Capitol, including the No. 3 House Republican, Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, and lashed those he labels RINOs, "Republican in name only". The Senate vote count fell short of the two-thirds majority needed for a conviction.

The mayhem left five dead, including a U.S. Capitol Police officer.

Mr Trump also said in his first major speech since leaving office that he also wanted credit for the increased number of vaccine doses now available.

A civil war has erupted within the Republican Party, with establishment figures such as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell eager to put Trump in the rearview mirror, and others, like Trump ally Senator Lindsey Graham, believing the party's future depends on the energy of the pro-Trump base. "We'll see what he says, but our focus is certainly not on what President Trump is saying at CPAC", she told reporters.

"We are not starting new parties, and we will not be dividing our power and our strength", Trump will say, according to Fox News.

Trump is not expected to announce Sunday that he will run again in 2024, but allies made clear he would continue to float the prospect.

Still, Trump fervour at the four-day CPAC event has been so strong that Mr Trump's eldest son Donald Trump Jr declared it "T-PAC" and participants rolled out a golden statue of the former president. "We know that what's on the other side, the other folks that are trying to undermine what our values are, our understanding of the Constitution, that's a greater threat to the United States than any of us are to each other".

"I'm going to lose track here, and, uh, um- Mayor [Sylvester] Turner, Judge [Lina] Hidalgo, uh, thank you all for welcoming us", Biden said. "CPAC is not the entirety of the Republican Party". If we speak to those issue to those families, those individuals, we win.

"I don't think he'll be our nominee", Cassidy said.

"By the Commerce Department's own estimate, this rule would impose many billions of dollars in new compliance costs on millions of USA firms, including countless small businesses", IBM Regulatory Affairs Vice President Christopher Padilla said.
