The number of people in hospital with the virus dropped by 15 to 240, with 66 of those patients in ICU.

There have been three new COVID-19-related deaths, for a total of 1,397 deaths in British Columbia. There have been 627 variants recorded in the province, including 109 cases that are now considered active.

Dix took to social media to share the news: "Now four days ahead of schedule, health authority call centres are ready to book the next age cohort of BC seniors starting tomorrow, Mar 11, at noon - those born in 1936 or earlier (85+)".

One more person in B.C. died of the disease Wednesday, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,394.

A further 9,051 people are under public health monitoring as a result of an identified exposure to a known case of COVID-19.

"We remember, of course, the families that are mourning the loss of their loved ones during this hard time", the doctor said.

The Opposition Liberals said only 33 call-takers were originally assigned to Vancouver Coastal - the second-largest authority in the province.

There have been 51 new cases of variants of concern.

The vast majority (588) are of the B.1.1.7 variant associated with the United Kingdom, while 36 are B.1.351 (South Africa) and 14 are P.1 (Brazil).

The province confirmed it has started to receive supplies of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, which will assist with outbreak response in communities and high-risk industries.

Hawes said she isn't angry with Kroger, and hopes that what happened to her doesn't discourage others from getting vaccinated themselves.

The vaccines aren't 100 per cent effective but they're some of the most effective that have ever been produced, according to the minister.

Of those cases, 89 are active.
