Georgia Senate set to take up raft of voting legislation

"Now, as our state legislators seek to turn back the clock through legislation that will restrict access to voting for many Georgians, I am disheartened, saddened, and angry", he wrote.

Carter's statement came hours after Georgia's Republican-controlled Senate passed by a party-line vote S.B.

The avalanche of proposed voting rights bills in Arizona comes as Republicans across the nation have introduced more than 250 new pieces of legislation in 43 states.

"The political organization founded by National Basketball Association superstar LeBron James and a host of other Black athletes and artists will kick off its post-2020 work with a focus on the wave of Republican-backed legislation aimed at restricting voter access in the wake of the latest presidential election", Merica wrote.

On Friday, James released a powerful message in tandem with his More Than A Vote initiative, taking direct aim at one side of the highly polarized political conversation in the United States.

The typically Republican state flipped during the 2020 presidential election, helping hand President Joe Biden his White House win. Republican lawmakers maintain that that voters have plenty of opportunity to cast ballots without excuse at in-person early voting sites for almost a month ahead of Election Day. The report examined mail-in voting practices and recommended that more studies be done before voting by mail was adopted universally, citing some concerns about bad practices.

"We must not promote confidence among one segment of the electorate by restricting the participation of others", he said in conclusion.

"In the 16 years since the report's release, vote-by-mail practices have progressed significantly as new technologies have been developed", Carter said.

Pointing to his post-White House experience observing 113 elections in 39 countries around the world, Carter said that "while states must safeguard the integrity of the election process to prevent fraud, this should not be at the expense of voters' access to the polls". The bill creates ID requirements to request an absentee ballot and establishes a hotline to file complaints and allegations of voter intimidation and illegal election activities.

Just as the liberal gun-grabbers get the conservative gun-rights juices flowing, it's the conservative vote-grabbers who have the liberals already planning their red-state vacations for 2024.

Other states led by Republicans have put forth similar measures.

An organization representing Iowa's Hispanic population filed a lawsuit Tuesday challenging new restrictions on voting in the state, a day after Gov. Kim Reynolds signed the measure into law.

Pate said in a statement that his the job of election officials is to follow the laws passed by the legislature.
