Philippines says COVID-19 vaccination drive on track as cases surge

As on Day-57 of the vaccination drive on Saturday, more than 15 lakh (15,19,952) vaccine doses were given.

Phase 1 includes people 65 and over, people with intellectual or mental disabilities, group housing residents, first responders, health-care workers, school staff, clergy and other essential workers. In the last 24 hours, 25 thousand 320 new cases were reported.

India reported 25,320 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours - the highest daily rise in nearly three months - taking the total tally to over 1.13 crore cases, the Health Ministry data this morning showed.

For 14 consecutive days, no new community cases have been detected. About 1.4 million of those doses were administered in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, cumulative recoveries rose to 1,09,73,260 with the national Recovery Rate reaching 96.82 per cent. It said, in the last 24 hours, 16 thousand 637 people were discharged after recovery.

The number of fresh infections is almost 1.7 per cent higher than that of Saturday, when the country registered 24,882 cases.

The latest tally brought the country's total confirmed cases to 621,498, among the highest in Asia, with the reported death toll increasing by 63 to 12,829.

India is the third-most affected country globally with 11.36 million cases, behind the United States and Brazil.

Eight states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi Gujarat, Karnataka, Haryana have been facing an upward trajectory in daily new cases.

The number of infections reported today is the highest daily rise since December 20 when as many as 26,624 new infections were recorded.
