Biden, Harris and others to promote relief plan's benefits

The legislation was Biden's first legislative priority on taking office in January.

The rescue package Biden signed into law on Thursday will fund vaccinations, hiring, running schools, fund state and local governments and reduce child poverty.

Biden said, "Over the next 10 days, we'll reach two goals - two giant goals".

Biden is scheduled to discuss the plan in remarks at the White House on Monday, while his wife, Jill, goes to the state of New Jersey to join Governor Phil Murphy at an elementary school where she is expected to talk about steps the school took to reopen and how the relief package can help families.

Biden signed the hugely popular relief program into law last week to aid the recovery of the USA economy after the COVID-19 pandemic triggered its biggest contraction since World War Two. Unlike Biden and other current officials who got their shots live on television, Trump in a highly unusual move kept his own vaccination private.

Sperling, who advised Biden's presidential campaign and served under former Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, will work with officials across the administration, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters at a briefing.

His fellow Democrats used narrow majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate to pass a large measure of what Biden originally proposed without Republican support.

Taking their case directly to the people, Harris traveled to Las Vegas on Monday, while Biden goes to Delaware County, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday and Atlanta on Friday.

Working as the economic council director for President Barack Obama from 2011 to 2014, Sperling oversaw programs that helped revive Detroit after the city filed for bankruptcy, among other efforts that focused on workers and US competitiveness.

Both there and in Nevada, Democrats will be defending US Senate seats in elections next year that could be critical in helping the party maintain narrow control of that chamber.

Mr Biden and his team have been trying to figure out how to vaccinate more Republicans as polls show some supporters of the former president have not wholeheartedly accepted the idea of getting vaccine shots.
