Australian PM Scott Morrison boosts number of women in Cabinet with reshuffle

Right, there's a lot to unpack here.

Christian Porter, who is accused of raping a woman 33 years ago, has been stripped of his role as Attorney-General.

Reynolds will be replaced at defense by controversial home affairs minister Peter Dutton, a powerful right-wing politician seen as hawkish on China's growing power in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Australian Prime Minister told reporters in Canberra that the changes were seven percentage points lower in two weeks as the Australian Prime Minister criticized his stance that "Australian women will shake what they have to achieve" to achieve what we all want.

During the reshuffle Morrison also announced a series of promotions for women, saying it was "the strongest ever female representation in an Australian cabinet".

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the cabinet reshuffle on Monday after a tumultuous month for the government.

But Morrison slipped, saying Payne would become "effectively ... the Prime Minister for Women" in her role as co-chair.

Assistant Minister to the Attorney-General Amanda Stoker would take on additional assistant ministry positions supporting women's and industrial relations' policies.

Now, if you're wondering, 'what the hell is a primary minister for women?' - good luck, we have no idea either.

The new group will be led by Minister for Women Marise Payne and comprise all female ministers, along with the deputy prime minister, treasurer and finance minister.

"Scott Morrison needs to take responsibility, personally, as the prime minister, for ensuring that women's issues are properly considered by his government".

Amid the fallout of rape accusations from Brittany Higgins and historical rape accusations against Christian Porter, ScoMo also took his opportunity to throw the obvious perpetrator of systemic misogyny under the bus - social media.

SCOTT MORRISON: I think with a fresh lens, and a fresh lens, in particular, to achieving the outcomes, the results that we all want for Australian women right across the country. Porter continues to deny the allegations.

He will become Industry, Science and Technology Minister when he returns. Why hasn't Porter been dropped from cabinet completely?

He has been under pressure to resign after he revealed himself as the Minister at the centre of the rape allegation.

Linda Reynolds has also been demoted from her role as Minister for Defence and will transition into the Minister for Government Services.

Ms Reynolds has been on health leave since February due to a heart condition and has recently faced criticism over her handling of the alleged rape in Parliament House of a former member of her staff.

The young staffer said she was raped by a more senior colleague in the minister's office two years ago and Reynolds was forced to apologise after it emerged she had called Higgins a "lying cow".

Karen Andrews, who has been promoted to the home affairs ministry, plans to focus on women's security.
