Four killed in shooting at office building in Orange

A shooting at a Southern California office building today killed four people, including a child, and injured a fifth person before police shot the suspect, police said.

It happened at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at a two-story office building in Orange, south of Los Angeles.

The attack took place on Wednesday evening in the city of Orange as the shooter, whose motivations are so far unknown, was shot by an officer and taken to hospital, police said, adding that the suspect's condition was not known. "An officer-involved shooting occurred", the Orange Police Department said in a post to their Facebook page.

It's unclear if the suspect suffered a self-inflicted wound or was shot by police.

An officer opened fire on the gunman, striking the person, and it's reported that they are in critical condition.

In a tweet, Gov. Gavin Newsom called the killings "horrifying and heartbreaking".

California Rep. Katie Porter said she and her team are monitoring the situation.

Signs outside shows a number of businesses at the building, including an insurance agent and a counseling service. "More details to follow", the department announced.

The bloodshed in the city of Orange, about 48km southeast of downtown Los Angeles, marked the third deadly mass shooting in the United States in less than a month.

The city of Orange is about 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Los Angeles and home to about 140,000 people. Arturo Reyes Torres, 41, an equipment operator who had been fired six weeks earlier, killed four people and wounded others, including a police officer, before police killed him.
