US Capitol Building Under Lockdown in DC

The man who rammed a vehicle into two officers at a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol, killing one of them before he was shot to death by police, had been suffering from delusions, paranoia and suicidal thoughts, a U.S. official told The Associated Press on Saturday. Green was shot and later died in the hospital, Pittman said during a news briefing.

He was killed when a 25-year-old man rammed the auto into two officers at a barricade outside the Capitol building on Friday, April 2.

President Joe Biden, who was with first lady Jill Biden at Camp David for the Easter holiday, offered his "heartfelt condolences" to the family of William Evans, the veteran policeman killed in the attack.

"Officer Evans, his family, and all those who knew him are in our hearts and prayers". The Capitol Police said the other officer was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Harris also said, "In an inexplicable act of violence, a courageous US Capitol Police Officer, William Evans, was killed in the line of duty while another officer fights for his life".

Vice President Kamala Harris condoled the death of the officer, saying that he made the "ultimate sacrifice" to protect the Capitol and the people who work there, reported ANI. They identified the suspect as Noah Green, 25.

According to the Capitol's acting police chief, Yogananda Pittman, Noah Green drove a auto into a barricade then emerged from the vehicle with a knife and ran toward two police officers.

"The man exited the vehicle with a knife and ran toward our officers". Multiple sources said one of the officers was stabbed in the face, but it was unclear which officer was stabbed.

Later the police said that lockdown was lifted and the USCP has "cleared the external security threat incident located at all of the U.S. Capitol Campus buildings, however the area around the crime scene will continue to be restricted and individuals should continue to follow police direction".

Biden also lowered White House flags.

The incident came almost three months after rioters overran the U.S. Capitol in a deadly attack on January 6. The National Guard was deployed to the Capitol shortly after the incident to assist Capitol Police officers who were lining the perimeter of the building.

The authorities said the attack did not appear to be terrorism-related.
