Columbus police show video of officer fatally shooting Black teenage girl

"As I said earlier, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting the criminal investigation into this incident".

He later said at the news conference, "We know based on this footage the officer took action to protect another young girl in our community".

The shooting comes the same day former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty in the murder of George Floyd.

Bryant was 16-years-old and academically gifted. "She could be my grandchild", said Ned Pettus, the Columbus director of public safety.

Bryant's aunty told reporters that Bryant had dropped the knife before being shot multiple times by an unidentified white officer.

"Whether this applies with that will be part of an investigation", he said at the news conference.

Floyd family attorney Ben Crump tweeted, "As we breathed a collective sigh of relief today, a community in Columbus felt the sting of another police shooting". He said there had been a police shooting. "It's not okay", he said, "and it can't continue on".

Officials say a 15-year-old girl was shot by a Columbus police officer on Tuesday

The 10-second clip begins with the officer getting out of his vehicle at a house where police had been dispatched after someone called 911 saying they were being physically threatened, Interim Police Chief Michael Woods said at the news conference.

She appears unresponsive and blood is pooled on the ground beneath her. "If an officer has violated policy or the law, if they have, they will be held accountable". "Get down!" and then fires four shots in the direction of the teenager.

Bryant told the outlet that Makiyah's grandmother and father had filled her in on the events that took place prior to the shooting.

The Mayor who called Bryant a "young woman" when she is a CHILD says there is body cam footage.

In another video broadcast from the scene, one of the officers yells back: "Blue lives matter". "We know we can't provide every answer, but it's important that we can answer some questions tonight". Police confirmed the person died at the hospital.

Police said, and the slow motion video appeared to show, that the officer shot the teen just as she was "attempting to stab the first female that lands on the ground and then the second female that is pushed onto the vehicle".

"The neighbourhood has definitely went through its changes, but nothing like this", Shepherd said of the shooting. "Because as you're getting one phone call that he was guilty, I'm getting the next phone call that this is happening in my neighborhood".
