Woman, 35, dies from brain blood clot caused by AstraZeneca vaccination

On social media, Malaysians looking to register for the voluntary AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine were met with frustration and disappointment as they attempted to book their spot after missing out on the first round.

The province's Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe confirmed the death during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, noting that the man had recieved his first dose of the vaccine sometime in late April.

One individual even said that she called a dozen GTA pharmacies in search of an appointment after being told that her neighbourhood pharmacy wasn't being allocated vaccines this time around.

Decisions about the AstraZeneca vaccine will be made by Wednesday evening after epidemiologists submitted their suggestions, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou said.

"We're seeing now with some new data from the United Kingdom that people who get two doses, as [time] goes on, their immunity keeps getting stronger and stronger, approaching some of that equal to the mRNA vaccines", he said.

The province's top doctor said last week that those who got their first jab of AstraZeneca between March 10 and March 19 during a pilot project at some pharmacies and doctors' offices will be prioritized for the second dose.

It also said a total of 29,183 people who were previously placed under the waiting list during the first round opt-in of the AstraZeneca vaccination programme were also included in this round's bookings. "So it's not that it's a hazard to get it earlier, it's just that the data we have is that it may not be as beneficial".

His comments come as the Taoiseach said more than 2.5 million doses of Covid vaccine would be administered by the end of Tuesday. Logan says she was hoping the process would be more straightforward.

"I understand there's a bit of confusion there", Williams said.

The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) has acknowledged and apologised for the shortcomings faced by the public during the third round of the voluntary registration of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine earlier today.

Another 10,000 doses of AstraZeneca expire next month, and the province now has more than 300,000 doses in stock.

"Those who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine must wait at least 12 weeks to get their second dose".

Meanwhile, the ministry has started rescheduling appointments for the second dose of the AstraZeneca jab, with 12,500 shots already brought forward and another 25,000 due to be arranged in the next few days.

At the time, adults aged 60-64 were eligible to get the shot in those settings.

"In the wake of this tragic death, I know that many individuals that received the AstraZeneca vaccine as their first dose may be feeling uneasy or concerned about their own health and safety", Yaffe said.
