Ex-GOP lawmaker claims Trump's North Carolina speech showed he's in decline

In contrast to the mega rallies that filled sports arenas when Trump was president, he faced a crowd that organizers estimated at 1,200 seated at dinner tables inside the Greenville Convention Center on Saturday night.

Twitter users accused Donald Trump of having his trousers on backwardsCredit: ReutersWhy did viewers believe Trump had his trousers on backward during a speech?

"Was the speech given in a no-fly zone?" joked another Twitter user.

"You can't pick people who have already lost two races and do not stand for our values", Trump told a large audience gathered for his speech, which spanned more than an hour and 20 minutes. His tailor made him pull-up pants to match the jacket, they're held up with an elastic waist and/or suspenders, ' one Twitter user proposed.

'Now let's wait and see if the rest of his supporters turn their trousers around backwards.

Some Twitter users had graphs to show his trousers may be on backwards. The claims have triggered a wave of Republican-backed voting restrictions in state legislatures across the country, even though Trump's cries of voting fraud have been refuted by dozens of judges, Republican governors and senior officials from his own administration.

The suits, which retail upwards of $3,800, have been worn and modelled by the likes of Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Antonio Banderas and Will Smith.

DONALD TRUMP: I am not the one trying to undermine American democracy.

"I don't think the no-fly zone is a case of Trump putting his trousers on backwards", he tweeted.

Theories and speculation ran wild as the video made the rounds, with others proposing that the trousers might be elastic-waisted pull-ups with no button or front zipper. Snopes looked through photographs taken at the event and published by the visual media company Getty Images that clearly show the former president on stage wearing trousers with a zipper in the front.

While the trousers mystery may be solved, it didn't stop Twitter users from coming up with their funniest fashion-inspired tweets. "Donald Trump has evidently been put on the no fly list", it tweeted. "They've got all the bases covered.", wrote another.

He wasn't the only one, with social media lighting up with people wondering what was going on with Trump's trousers and debating whether he was wearing them backwards.
