Denmark player collapses, receives CPR on field

After the pitch emptied, a video board in the stadium relayed updates on Eriksen's condition, and on the match's status, to fans.

The former Tottenham player's national teammates formed a ring around him as medical staff tried to resuscitate Eriksen on the far touchline.

"Christian Eriksen is awake and is undergoing further examinations at Rigshospitalet", the Danish federation wrote on Twitter.

There are worrying scenes coming during the Denmark vs Finland match at Euro 2020, with Christian Eriksen having collapsed under no pressure from any opponent.

The Danish FA said Eriksen is awake and waiting more tests in hospital.

The UEFA Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland has been suspended due to a medical emergency.

Denmark dominated the match before and after the traumatic incident, but Finland striker Joel Pohjanpalo headed home the victor on the hour with his side's only attempt of the game.

The previously raucous crowd at the Parken Stadium in the Danish capital fell silent after the 29-year-old fell to the ground near the end of the opening period, with his teammates gathering around him.

When play resumed, Pohjanpalo put Finland ahead against the run of play in the 60th minute when he rose above Joakim Maehle to head home a cross from Jere Uronen.

Eriksen collapsed on the field and had to be stretched off after receiving medical treatment for roughly 15 minutes, which included chest compressions.

UEFA says both teams have made a decision to complete the game even though Christian Eriksen was taken to a hospital after collapsing on the field near the end of the first half. Kjaer, the captain, was particularly emotional, and was subbed off 20 minutes after the 8:30 p.m. restart.

Get well soon Christian Eriksen. The players were back on the field less than two hours after the incident.
