Boston Bruins, Tyler Seguin Close To Contract Extension?
We could get word of a done-deal between Tyler Seguin and the Boston Bruins shortly. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period suggests the extension hammered out with Taylor Hall of the Edmonton Oilers should provide that extra push to get the young Bruins forward locked up long-term.
“Talks, so far, between Bruins and Seguin camp have been fluid but like I said, should intensify after Hall signing today.”
Meanwhile, NESN’s Mike Cole proposes Hall’s new contract provides the framework for what to expect detail-wise from Seguin’s extension.
“It’s becoming increasingly safe to assume that if and when the Bruins do extend Seguin, the annual salary will likely be right around that $6 million mark that Hall was just given. The two players are similar in terms of skill, and they’ve both done a nice job in their respective NHL careers through two seasons. While there are many who would say that Hall is the better player with the brighter future, Seguin can’t be more than a peg below him.”
We figure Seguin’s salary/term combo will slide in somewhere between Hall’s new deal and the six-year, $34.35-million extension recently signed by fellow draft-class alumni Jeff Skinner and the Carolina Hurricanes.
