The Dallas Stars yesterday acquired the rights to defenseman Sergei Gonchar from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Today the Stars and Gonchar have agreed to terms on a two-year, $10 million contract with defenceman Sergei Gonchar, TSN reports.┬áThe deal is pending the completion of signed paperwork. Gonchar’s agent, JP Barry, was given permission to find a trade partner for Ottawa when the Senators decided not to re-sign the veteran defenseman. The 39-year-old played the past three seasons for Ottawa, recording 15 goals and 76 assists. He has played 1,177 games in 18 NHL seasons.
