As reported by TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Dallas Stars have solid plans to speak with Alain Vigneault, Dallas Eakins and Willie Desjardins, having already interviewed Lindy Ruff for the head coaching vacancy. Dave Tippett remains out of reach at this point, because the Phoenix Coyotes won’t give other NHL clubs permission to speak with their head coach until the issue of ownership is sorted out. Tippett remains under contract with the Coyotes until June 30.

Hiring a new head coach may be the most important task on new General Manager Jim Nill’s to-do list, but there’s apparently no great rush. According to the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Stars general manager appears willing to take his time in replacing Glen Gulutzan (who was let go, along with assistant Paul Jerrard, this week). Even if that means waiting until other candidates become available later this summer.
