The Detroit Red Wings and Jiri Hudler have had contract discussions, but remain far apart on the dollars of the deal.

The 28-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He put up a career high 25 goals and talled 50 points this past season, while earning $3 million. “He’s interested in staying. We’re interested if a number works,” general manager Ken Holland said. “We’re not where he wants to be salary-wise.” The Wings are expected to talk to Hudler’s agent again on Thursday or Friday.
