Flames Could Start Selling
The Calgary Flames still believe they are in the playoff race right now but General Manager Jay Feaster will monitor the situation closely to figure out if it’s time to start selling off assets and prepare for the future. He tells Sportsnet, “We’ve talked about intellectual honestly. ‘Are you really in the race?’ Well, we think we are right now.”
The Flames will be especially conscious of the situation because they have some contracts they probably want to get some cap relief before the free agency begins this summer. In addition, several of their own players are hitting unrestricted free agency, including Olli Jokinen, Lee Stempniak and Cory Sarich, so there may be some pieces to move, although both Sarich and Jokinen have no-movement clauses.
