Today is day 3 of the NHL Lockout. Below are links from around the league:

  • Alex Ovechkin told Sovetsky Sport, a Russian daily newspaper, that he thinks the lockout may last an entire year. And if that happens, Ovechkin said he will spend that time in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.
  • Winnipeg Free Press is reporting that season-ticket holders are receiving letters from teams about how they will handle the expected cancellation of games.
  • The Pittsburgh Penguins said Sunday that none of their employes will be fired, for now, due to the uncertainty of the NHL season, per the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.
  • Newsday reports that The NHL lockout could cost Nassau County’s economy $60 million in lost visitor spending.
  • Detroit Free Press reports that Detroit sports bars are worried about the impact of the lockout on their sales.
  • Steve Bartlett, the agent for Ryan Callahan and Erik Cole, thinks the NHL lockout will be over by Thanksgiving. Bartlett thinks that the animosity between Gary Bettman and former NHLPA head Bob Goodenow is not there now between Bettman and Donald Fehr. Bartlett also thinks that the bottom players will end up taking the biggest hit. “The star players will be fine, but the third and fourth-liners will feel the pain. It’s more mental anguish for the stars,” said Bartlett.
  • Teemu Selanne ripped NHL commissioner Gary Bettman in his Finnish blog on Monday. Among other things, Selanne said that Bettman was the most hated man in hockey. Selanne also stated that the NHL got what it wanted in the last lockout and now wants more. Selanne is one of the few players left in the NHL who have who have now been part of all three lockouts (1994, 2004 and now).
