The Los Angeles Kings have begun discussing a contract extension with Jonathan Quick, and it could get done “before next season” according to the Los Angeles Times.

The 26-year-old netminder has a year left on his contract at $1.8 million before he hits free agency. There was little doubt general manager Dean Lombardi would ever let that happen to a piece that’s central to his team’s success and one of the best goalies in the league.
“The one thing I do sense is that I do think that both sides want to get something done,” Lombardi said on NHL Live on the NHL Network. “And that goes without saying. A lot of times the deals don’t come together because people aren’t ready to make deals, but in this case, I get the sense that we have a chance to get something done here before next season.”
