Update 11:17 AM:  Sources told TSN Hockey on Tuesday that the Canadiens have reached out to Chicago Blackhawks assistant General Manager Marc Bergevin and player agent Pat Brisson to discuss their vacant post.

La Presse columnist and TSN contributor Francois Gagnon reports that the team has also contacted Tampa Bay Lightning assistant General Manager and former Canadiens executive Julien BriseBois and Toronto Maple Leafs assistant General Manager Claude Loiselle.

10:24 AM: The Montreal Canadiens have official begun their search for a new General Manager. RDS’s Renaud Lavoie reports that the Canadiens made phone calls yesterday about this very subject, presumably to candidates they like. It looks like former General Manager Serge Savard is doing the hiring as he serves as an advisor, so he was most likely the ones making the calls.

The list of potential General Manager’s is long so there’s no word on who got the first call, but guys like Patrick Roy, Pierre McGuire, Doug Risebrough, Marc Bergevin, Claude Loiselle and Julien BriseBois have been mentioned.
