Shane Doan is looking for a four-year, $30 million contract if he signs with a team other than the Phoenix Coyotes.

That will scare off a lot of perspective bidders, but given that he’s by far the best unrestricted free agent left and there are plenty of teams well under the cap, so he might get his wish. Doan would provide any team with veteran leadership, a physical presence, and a reliable secondary scorer. Those are desirable attributes, but it’s hard to justify handing a 35-year-old who will turn 36 in October that kind of money for those kinds of assets.
