NHL Free Agency: Shane Doan News
- Shane Doan reportedly had a meeting with the Vancouver Canucks Tuesday evening, according to News1130 Sports on Twitter. Doan recently talked to potential Phoenix Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison, but he also seems to be evaluating his other options. It is believed that Doan is seeking a contract in the ballpark of four-year/$30 million if he leaves Phoenix. If that’s the case then it’s hard to see how the Vancouver Canucks, who are near the salary cap, can afford to sign Doan.
- Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier said the Buffalo Sabres have interest in signing unrestricted free agent Shane Doan, but it looks like potential talks between Doan and the Sabres haven’t heated up, according to The Buffalo News. Terry Bross, Doan’s agent, said he’s had several meetings with the Sabres, but Regier’s statement was more guarded. “No, we have not met with [Doan], and I don’t know whether we will meet with him,” Regier said. “We’re monitoring the situation, and I’d leave it at that.” There are plenty of teams that have expressed interest in his services, although some have probably been scared off by his high asking price.
