• Toronto Maple Leafs sign GM Dave Nonis to five-year contract extension. Nonis replaced Brian Burke as the Leafs GM prior to the start of the 2013 season. His offseason included an amnesty buyout for Mikhail Grabovski, a trade for former first-round pick and top goalie prospect Jonathan Bernier and long-term contracts for David Clarkson and Tyler Bozak. While he’s definitely helped boost Toronto’s talent level, it seems like a strange time to extend Nonis contract considering the MLSE brass hasn’t seen anything close to results for any of these moves.
  • Kyle Palmieri has agreed to a three-year/$4.4 million contract with the Anaheim Ducks, per TSN.ca. Palmieri was a restricted free agent after the completion of his entry-level contract. He scored 10 goals and registered 11 assists in 42 games last season.
  • According to  Stephen Whyno on Twitter the Toronto Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis says contract extensions for Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf are “not on the front burner right now.”
