• Three teams have reached out to Tim Thomas, according to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun. LeBrun didn’t name the three teams, but it’s a good bet the Philadelphia Flyers are one of them. Thomas is reportedly “intrigued” by Philly but is unsure if he’s a good fit there. Thomas has decided to return to the NHL after taking a year away from the game. It’s unclear who else is interested, but his agent did say Europe is also a possibility.
  • Valtteri Filppula and the Detroit Red Wings haven’t made much progress in their contract negotiations. It seems likely at this point that Filppula will become an unrestricted free agent, but Detroit hasn’t given up yet. “One call can change everything,” said Red Wings GM Ken Holland. “I’ve been around long enough to know that. We’ll see what develops. Is Fil going to hit the market? I don’t know that.” Filppula is coming off of a rough season where he scored nine goals and 17 points in 41 games.
  • Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said he’s thought about circling back to Jaromir Jagr after Nathan Horton told the team he would be exploring free agency. The Bruins originally told Jagr they had no plans to re-sign him, but Horton’s decision apparently changed things. Chiarelli admitted he’s not sure if Jagr will want to return or if he’s already moved on to other options. Jagr does plan to play in the NHL next season and judging from Chiarelli’s interest, he has at least one interested party.
