Jeff Skinner is expected to sign a six-year extension with the Carolina Hurricanes for an average annual value of $5.725 million, according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie.

That would put the contract at $34.35 million. This seems to confirm general manager Jim Rutherford‘s tweet Tuesday night that a deal was imminent: “It looks like we are going to be able to get Jeff Skinner tied up for a number of years. Exciting news for our franchise.” The 20-year-old wasn’t expected to become a restricted free agent for another year. One of the league’s brightest young stars, Skinner has 51 goals and 56 assists in 146 games.
