NHL Signing: Philadelphia Flyers, Wayne Simmonds Agree To Six-Year Extension
TSN is reporting the Philadelphia Flyers signed forward Wayne Simmonds to a six-year extension late Wednesday night, with an annual average value of about $4 million.
Simmonds, 23, set career-highs last season with 28 goals, 49 points, 11 power-play goals and four game-winning goals. He also had a goal and five assists in 11 playoff games.
The reported new contract will start with the 2013-14 season, and keep Simmonds with the Flyers through the 2018-19 season. Simmonds is entering the final season of the two-year deal he signed not long after arriving in Philadelphia last summer as part of the trade that sent Mike Richards to the Los Angeles Kings.
In four NHL seasons with the Kings and Flyers, Simmonds has 67 goals, 75 assists and 378 penalty minutes in 322 games. The durable Simmonds played all 82 games last season for the second time in his career, and he’s missed just six games in four seasons.
