• Stefan Matteau agreed to a three-year, entry-level deal with the New Jersey Devils, according to the Bergen Record. The team’s 2012 first-round pick can earn $842,000 per year at the NHL level, though it’s expected he’ll play in the QMJHL this year. The 18-year-old had 32 points and 166 penalty minutes in 46 games for the under-18 U.S. squad this past season. “We felt very good about him at the rookie camp and we wanted to get him under contract and just get his professional career started, not with any knowledge of where he’ll be playing yet, but so we have the options of doing whatever we think is necessary,” Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said.
  • Mitchell Heard signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the Colorado Avalanche, according to the teams official website. The 20-year-old forward was the Avs’ first pick, 41st overall, in the 2012 draft. He notched 29 goals, 28 assists and 111 penalty minutes in the OHL last season. He’ll likely kick off his professional career in the AHL this year.
