NHL Signings: Derek Dorsett, Mikael Granlund
Couple of NHL signings:
- The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed Derek Dorsett to a three-year deal. ”Derek is an extremely competitive and hard-working player,” General Manager Scott Howson said. “He has improved every year and we look forward to his continued growth as a player and leader on our team.” The 25-year-old forward set personal bests with 12 goals, 20 points and 235 penalty minutes in 77 games this past season, while taking larger role with the team and averaging 14:41 of ice time per contest.
- The Minnesota Wild have signed top prospect Mikael Granlund to a three-year contract worth $2.7 million. The deal includes annual $90,000 signing bonuses and a performance bonus structure that could raise his annual salary cap hit to $2.1 million. The ninth overall selection in the 2010 draft tallied 20 goals and 51 points in 45 games with HIFK Helsinki to lead the team in scoring as a 19-year-old this past season and captured the Finnish Elite League’s Rookie of the Year honor in 2009-10 when he scored 40 points in 43 contests. He’s expected to claim a roster spot with the Wild next season and if his potential comes to the forefront, he could be in the running for the Calder Trophy.
